The Eyes of the world team in Bolivia is in luck. On February 18, they signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the municipality of Curahuara de Carangas in Oruro, with several objectives:
- Spread awareness to students about eye health and COVID-19
- Train teachers in taking visual acuity
- Train primary care staff members in basic ophthalmology for the detection and referral of patients with cataracts
- Collaborate with women’s associations to offer them the knowledge that allows them to act as eye health promoters
Those responsible for the municipality, in return, committed to the allocation of the budget for eye health (provision of lenses) and to guarantee the continuity of the collaboration.
Eyes of the world works in the department of Oruro (located at more than 3,700 meters above sea level and with a population of close to half a million people) to create a comprehensive eye care network integrated into the public health system.
