Cartel de la mesa redonda sobre el acceso de la mujer a la atención ocularOn January 26 at 6:30 p.m., Eyes of the world has organized a telematic round table to exchange experiences and share the gender diagnostic work the Foundation has done in recent years in the countries where it has active projects. The objective is to identify the barriers to access to eye care encountered by women in some of the most vulnerable territories in the world and what actions Eyes of the world have carried out to ensure equitable access to health services.

The event will be free and open to all those interested in learning about the work carried out by the Foundation in terms of gender equality. The online round table will take place through the Zoom platform.

For Eyes of the world, gender equity is one of the fundamental pillars in the way it approaches its actions, given that 55% of people with vision loss in the world are women or girls. In addition, many women lack access to the economic resources of the family unit with equal rights to men and cannot receive the ophthalmological treatment they need; furthermore, they do not have enough time for their personal care, given their greater dedication to caring for the family. For this reason, Eyes of the world, in line with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) 2030, promotes the empowerment of women individually and collectively in the ocular field, with the aim of ending gender inequalities in access to health.

The following speakers will participate in the round table: María Tavera Villén, coordinator of Eyes of the Sahara; Ruth Bolaños, coordinator of the Eyes of Bolivia project in the Department of Oruro; Alfonso Noboa, Eyes of Mali technician, and Guillermo Martínez-Pérez, head of the gender assessment carried out by Eyes of the world in the province of Inhambane (Mozambique). Bibiana Ruberte, responsible for gender at Eyes of the world, will be the event’s moderator.

The event has the support and collaboration of the ACCD (Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation), L’Hospitalet City Council, and the Santa Coloma de Gramenet City Council.
