Barcelona, 1958. Josep Maria Argimon holds a degree in Medicine and a PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), a specialist in preventive medicine and public health from Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), a diploma in Epidemiology and statistics from Pierre et Marie Curie Paris IV University, a Master’s degree in Evidence-based health care from Oxford University and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and health planning from the University of Wales. He has also been an international consultant in Latin America for the European Union and the German Cooperation Agency. He has taught at UAB and UPF and is the author of books and articles on clinical epidemiology, health planning and public health.

Professionally, he has held different positions in the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut). Between 2004 and 2008 he was head of the Division of Evaluation of Health Care Services; from 2008 to 2012, manager of Planning, Purchasing and Evaluation. Between September 2012 and January 2016 he was the director of the Agency for Health Quality and Evaluation of Catalonia (AQuAS). From February 2016, he was deputy director of CatSalut.

Between 2018 and 2021 he was director of the Catalan Institute of Health, a position he combined with that of secretary of Public Health of the Department of Health from July 2020. Between 2021 and 2022 he was minister of Health of the Government of Catalonia. In 2022 he joined the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation as Director of Scientific Infrastructures.
